they left many tracks
that changing tides would never reach
it was more than just a cause
it was their lives
it was their land
and at home a brethren
suffering from bloody infections
the only way to cleanse them
was to run them over with bicycles
Note: I’ve been doing a lot of research for an upcoming project on Singapore Eurasians and because of it, I’ve been reading a lot of Singapore history. Bicycles was written in response to various materials I’ve read about the Fall of Singapore and the subsequent Japanese Occupation and the attitudes of the various parties involved.
