A pending future

We’ve blanketed over our mistakes with smog,
gassing dead the memories left in our minds-
we will soon be too forgetful to remember our youth,
and our fingers too unstable to press rewind.

Note: This short poem was inspired by the article: The Polluted Brain. It describes the growing amount of evidence that suggests air pollution and more specifically small air pollutants like PM2.5 affect the brain and can lead to dementia and Alzheimer’s, adding to the long list of health concerns, including but not limited to asthma, lung cancer and heart disease.
