Again, inspired by The Desire for Elsewhere by Agnes Chew. This time, the original text is from the chapter entitled ‘The Evanescence of Connection’.

I would like to thank Kyle Bear, who privately messaged me that the style of poetry I used for the other piece Planes that was also inspired by Chew’s book, is known as Chop Poetry.

We are all but little boats
floating in an immense ocean.
We may come across another
(with) an opportune gust of wind
that carries within it
an open-ended question
laced with potentiality,
until the next tidal wave
pulls us apart once more.
